Somatic and Sexual Sovereignty Four-Part Workshop (12 CEUs)
How present are you in your own body? How comfortable are you discussing sexuality related topics with your clients?
Join certified Somatic Psychotherapy expert, Hillary Baldwin Steller, LMSW, SEP and AASECT certified sex therapist and author Heidi Sproull LMSW, CST for a journey in clinician self discovery and clinical skill development.
This four-part workshop series is specifically designed for clinical social workers and mental health professionals who have a desire to be clinically versed in introductory somatic psychotherapy and sex therapy concepts, framing and skills. Each of the four training modules will be three-and-a-half hours in length and are planned for September 12 and 26, and October 10 and 17, 2025. The four separate sessions will be taught in-person and include didactic, discussion based, and experiential content delivered through a trauma-informed lens. While the four sessions can stand alone, they are meant to be interdependent with one session building on the next, and the most comprehensive learning will be achieved by participants completing the four-part series. A total of 12 CEUs are available for social workers.
All workshops will be held at Bamboo Coworking, 200 S. 1st St., Ann Arbor, MI 48104, in the 3rd floor classroom.
There is ample street, lot, and garage parking within one block.
Session 1: Somatics and Sexuality Awareness for Psychotherapists (3 CEUs)
Friday, September 12, 2025 • 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Presented jointly by Hillary Baldwin Steller, LMSW, SEP, and Heidi Sproull LMSW, CST.
The focus of this first session will be to teach foundational terms and concepts and to provide participants immediately useful experiential exercises. These skills are specifically selected to illustrate the essential nature of somatic awareness and comprehensive sexuality to a person’s healing and overall wholeness. Participants will practice and gain the ability to support their own grounded nervous system as well as their clients’—both in a clinical setting and beyond the therapy space. Presenters will work with participants to create a courageous and curious environment for deep learning and engagement. We will work to address barriers to clinicians' own comfort with being fully present in their own body, both sexually and somatically.
Session 2: Where do you feel that? Somatic Awareness (3 CEUs)
Friday, September 26, 2025 • 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Primarily presented by Hillary Baldwin Steller, LMSW, SEP, with Heidi Sproull LMSW, CST.
In order to provide effective somatic healing work with clients, a therapist must be grounded in their own body. This presentation will be focused on engaging and exploring your own somatic awareness. Participants will learn how to utilize this awareness for themselves, and to teach these skills for use with clients for improved clinical outcomes. A critical component of somatic awareness includes psycho-education providing a deeper understanding of the nervous system as scaffolding for experiential content. Further skill development focuses on partnering with clients towards healing their traumatized nervous system, allowing for improved internal integration and wholeness.
Session 3: Embodied Sexuality—Getting Comfortable Holding Space for the Uncomfortable (3 CEUs)
Friday, October 10, 2025 • 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Primarily presented by Heidi Sproull LMSW, CST, with Hillary Baldwin Steller, LMSW, SEP
Sexuality as part of a person’s whole self is fundamental to self concept, yet most clinical training is limited in addressing this aspect of psychological health. This workshop will be focused on the basics of integrated sexuality awareness and topical comfort for the general psychotherapist unfamiliar with sex therapy. Discussion and experiential content will work through a lens of embodied consent, including a look at the factors contributing to sexual dysfunction, sexual health, and the impact of sexual trauma on overall embodied health. Further content will look at psychotherapist comfort in supporting clients with sexual content through an empowerment focused and trauma informed lens. The workshop will be fully inclusive of diverse sexuality and gender expression.
Session 4: Putting It All Together—Integrating Somatic and Embodied Sexuality Clinical Skills (3 CEUs)
Friday, October 17, 2025 • 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Presented jointly by Heidi Sproull LMSW, CST, and Hillary Baldwin Steller, LMSW, SEP
Now that participants have a greater knowledge and skill base of clinical somatic and sexuality work, this workshop will facilitate an even deeper look at how this type of work can positively impact clinical effectiveness. Further skill development will include practice with previously taught skills and deeper experiential learning. As clinicians experiencing our own fluency with embodied practices, we seek to support clients to integrate an embodied understanding of the essential person. This includes mind, body, and emotion balanced around self or spirit. Participants will assess learning goals, and enumerate the impact of learned content on current and future professional practice and parallel personal skill enhancement.
